A church doesn’t come up with a mission or purpose out of thin air. Our only mission is the mission that the church was given by Jesus Christ after his resurrection. It is based on the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:16-20. 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” The mission is clear according to the words of Jesus. We are commissioned to go and make disciples.
In order to accomplish this task, we are committed to honoring God by connecting all people to Jesus Christ and serving the world for Jesus’ sake. Honor. Connect. Serve. This is our mission and our process of discipleship. We strive to honor God by worshipping Him with our whole life. We strive to connect all people to Jesus Christ, the truth of His word, and the community of faith. We strive to move out of the four walls of the building in order to serve the world for Jesus’ sake.
Honor God. Romans 12 tells us that we should offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, and pleasing to God because this is our spiritual act of worship (honor.) We know that God is worthy of all our devotion. Therefore, we strive to live our lives as an offering to a Holy God.
Connect. We strive to connect all people to Jesus Christ. You’ll hear this over and over again at Dry Run because we really believe that Jesus told us to make this our reason for existence. We know that life really begins in freedom as Jesus connects our lives to his. This connection to Jesus Christ through repentance and faith leads us to new life with new attitudes and convictions.
Along with connecting to Christ Jesus, we are committed to connecting all people to the truth of the word of God. We strive to make available relevant teaching of the word so that all may come to know the truth that will set us free. This is accomplished through the preaching and teaching of the Bible so that we may be built up in truth.
Third, we want all people to connect to a community of faith. This is for encouragement, accountability, and strength. We believe that the community of faith is crucial to our development as followers of Jesus. IN community we are challenged, encouraged, and strengthened. So, we want all people to connect to others in a community of faith.
Serve. Finally, in the community of faith, we have the opportunity to serve the world. We believe that a person who is connected to Jesus will serve the world for Jesus’ sake. This means that we as followers of Jesus seek to find ways to engage the world with the truth of God. We seek to show the love of Christ to the world in tangible ways. We are encouraged to share the message of salvation with everyone we come into contact with as an act of service. We believe that the highest level of Christian maturity is the desire to share the message of salvation with others in ways they will understand.
